Kreative Science is excited to offer an engaging digital activity designed to help your middle school students move beyond rote memorization of definitions. This interactive experience encourages students to actively decide whether a change produces a new substance and to articulate the evidence supporting their conclusions.
Students will actively distinguish between physical and chemical changes.
They will recognize that physical changes alter form, size, or state but do not create a new substance.
Students will identify common evidence of a chemical change, such as:
- Gas production (bubbles, odor)
- Temperature change (gets hotter or colder)
- Light production
- Formation of a new precipitate (a solid forming from a solution)
Crucially, they will learn to explain why a single clue is not always definitive proof and will use evidence to support their claims. A teacher answer key is included in this 7 part interactive.
Decide on the method students will use to record their responses (e.g., a notebook, a provided worksheet if applicable).
The last portion of the quiz requires students to sign their name on the screen, then instructs them to take a screenshot. This may be useful for recording a student’s grade on the assignment.
